august diet – I call it Hol30

I hate dieting. I have the world’s slowest metabolism, which means that I tend to maintain my weight or slowly gain if I eat just 1250 calories a day, which is way under the 1800 recommended calorie intake for women. So, because of my slug body, I’ve been trying to lose weight for over a year now and I haven’t got anywhere.

I’m always looking for and researching new diet plans. I’ve tried the wedding dress diet plan (800 calories a day, I had to give that one up because I couldn’t move from the lack of food after a week), I’ve tried cutting out various types of food, I’ve tried just eating healthy (which I do anyway, except for the odd treat and starbucks) and exercising but I don’t get anywhere! It’s frustrating and my weight does get me down. There’s lots of things I won’t do because I’m fat.

At university I lost around 2 stone in just over a year. I1418951917288 didn’t actively diet until I was 1 stone down, but even then I was drinking copious amounts of alcohol and having a Boneless Banquet at 3am every week on the way home from MooMoos, a nightclub in Cheltenham. I guess I was walking a lot more, dancing for hours until my feet started to blister and not really eating much because of the whole poor-student thing. In my second year I joined a gym and went three times a week with my housemates, which is when I lost another stone (14lbs to you Americans) within a month.

And suddenly we were going out for dinner and watching movies with chocolate instead of going dancing and I didn’t fancy going to the gym anymore when I could be spending time with him instead. I put on 3 stone within a year. I don’t blame him, I blame myself for having no willpower at all. Luckily I haven’t put on any more weight since then, I’ve just stayed around the same, plus or minus 3lbs.

This month, I’ve altered the Whole30 plan (click here to read about it) and renamed it the Hol30 plan (see what I did there?) as I feel like if I went all in I’d relapse within a week. I’ve allowed myself one coffee a day from my coffee machine – no starbucDSCF0159ks or costa – with no sugar of course, I’m allowed wholegrain rice once a week and I can use honey and soy in small quantities for sauces. Other than that, no grains, no legumes, no dairy, no sugar. It’s gonna be tough, but I really do want to do it! The hardest thing for me is to drink enough water. I can manage about 3 pints of water a day but any more than that and I start feeling like a water bed. Also, it makes me need to pee every 5 minutes. I’m aiming for 6 pints a day eventually, so I’m working my way up slowly.

I’m also currently doing a pre-C25K course at the moment and will ‘graduate’ onto the actual C25K in the middle of August (click here to read about it) so hopefully I’ll be much healthier and fitter in a few months time! I want to lose 2 stone first of all, then another 1.5 stone after that if possible.

  1. Hi Holly, I know exactly what you feel like. I’m the same, I really recommend weight watchers. No food is off the menu, you don’t starve yourself, if anything you eat more but of the right stuff. you can eat whatever and i mean whatever you want, and still loose weight. You fancy chocolate? you go and have it. some weeks i have been good watching what i eat and how much, but on the weekend gone out for a massive takeaway and still lost 2/3 pound. I also do slimfast sometimes as well, that is really good, but with slimfast you have to be really strict (which i am no good at), no snacking between the shakes and your evening meal and no chocolate etc. but again with just slimfast still -2/3 pound a week if no cheeky snacks.
    But now i am near my healthy weight for height and age so now it’s coming off slower and I go to the gym every day and of course i’m gaining muscle, so i have gained a stone just in muscle mass. but you don’t need to go to the gym, when lost my first 2stone at weight watchers i didn’t go to the gym I just walked. I have a pedometer on my phone and I was aiming for at least 5,000 steps a day. (that doesn’t sound many but considering i would sit on my arse all day it was a good starting point) if it got to the end of my day and i’d only done 3,000 after dinner i would go for a 30minute walk to get my steps up. but now i aim for atlease 8-10,000 a day.
    I wouldn’t be able to do diets where you have to count every calorie, or completely cut out some of my favorite foods. But you have to have your head in the zone, if your heads not in it, it won’t work. I really recommend weight watchers, just have a look at their plans but it really does work and when you get to your goal weight with weight watchers you are more likely to keep it off than any other diet.They do good deals like a refund if you don’t loose 10 pound in the first 4 weeks, I lost 8 pound in my first week.

    • Thank you for your comment, weight watchers and slimming world is something I’m looking into but our budget doesn’t quite stretch that far yet. Maybe in a couple of months 🙂

  2. I’ve just started the 30 day shred exercise DVD. It’s bloody hard work (and I’m only on level 1! Lol I also use MyFitnessPal to track my meals and keep under my calorie goal. I don’t really follow any ‘diets’
