GO-TO NIGHT OUT MAKEUP ROUTINE

Honestly – I don’t get out much. I’m a blogger, YouTuber and I’m living the broke life, which is like the holy trinity for being a hermit. But very, very occasionally, I’ll have a night out. Maybe once or twice a year. And as I hardly ever go out, when I do get out the house I like to put in some extra effort into my makeup and spend a long time getting ready and making myself feel good about myself. With that in mind, here’s my current go-to night out makeup routine!

My Night Out ('out out') Makeup Routine | Evening Glam Makeup Tutorial/MOTD

Before I start my makeup, I make sure I’ve cleansed, toned and moisturised my face to make my skin in great condition for the night ahead. I want my foundation to have a really good base and my skin to look and feel healthy. Making sure my skin is cleansed also helps prevent breakouts the next day. I’m using the Garnier Cleansing Milk with Rose Water for cleansing, Garnier Clarifying Tonic to tone and The Ordinary Moisturising Factors + HA to moisturise at the moment.

Foundation, Primer, Strobe Balm, Concealer - Night Out MOTD

To prime my face for all of the product I’m about to put on it, I use the Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer. It’s so hydrating, which means I won’t dry out at all and helps my foundation glide on so smoothly. It’s also quite expensive at £34 (although keep an eye out for sales, I recently picked up the Radiance Veil primer for £10.20), but you’ll notice that I use my more expensive makeup for a night out, as I tend to save it for special occasions. You can buy it from LookFantastic!

My foundation depends on what my skin is enjoying, but recently I’ve been obsessed with the Nyx Stay Matte But Not Flat foundation. It’s not totally matte as my skin is quite radiant in the summer but it has great coverage and the shade Alabaster is perfect for my skin tone. You can get it from Boots for just £6 too, which is an amazing price.

For concealer, you can’t beat the coverage of Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in ‘Fair’ in the drugstore. I love this concealer for hiding dark circles and blemishes; it blends out so beautifully and still manages to cover my spots and tired eyes! It’s only around £4 and you can get it from numerous places, including Superdrug and Boots.

Lastly for my base, I use a liquid highlight. I think a strobing product (don’t know what Strobing is? Read this) like the Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid can look a lot more natural than a powder highlight and doesn’t accentuate any fine lines or imperfections like a powder one. I love the Maybelline one in ‘Light’ as it’s so radiant and glowy but sinks into the skin to look natural. You can get it from Boots and Superdrug for £7.99, and they also do a stick version as well.

bronzer, powder, blush and highlight - night out motd

I let everything sink into my face for about a minute before I put powder on as I think it applies better when I do. I have a few powders I like using but my usual go-to is the Collection Primed + Ready Invisible Setting Powder. It’s so good for so cheap and doesn’t cause flashback at all. I don’t Bake (don’t know what that is? Read this) as I have dry undereyes but if I was going to, I’d probably use the Collection loose powder as I love the pressed one so much. You can get the powder from Superdrug or Boots for £3.99.

I don’t really contour, but for Bronzer I use the NARS Laguna Bronzer as it feels so luxe and applies beautifully with my Morphe B82 brush. I also sometimes use a big fan brush to concentrate the bronzer under my cheekbones for a subtle contour. It isn’t too muddy or orange for my pale complexion but can be built up for deeper skintones. It’s pricey but worth the splurge in my opinion – find it at LookFantastic for £29.

My preference in blush changes all the time depending on my eye look, lipstick and feelings towards it in the moment. But in the summer I’ll go for something quite glowy, like the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Blush in All I Think About Is You (how about that name for a throwback, eh?) It looks radiant without looking like you have highlight in the wrong place. It’s only £2.50 and there’s a variety of shades at Superdrug or on TAMBeauty.com.

I’ll often skip a powder highlight if I’ve strobed already but if I was to choose one (over strobing liquid you will glow like a star) I’d choose the Makeup Obsession highlight in the shade Moon for my cheekbones, with Bare on other parts of my face. Moon is a really in-your-face highlight which is perfect if you want to be seen from 4 miles away and Bare is slightly more subtle. You can get Makeup Obsession products from Boots and TAMBeauty and each pan is just £2 or £3. I also really like this Rainbow Highlight by Makeup Revolution, which is £4 from TAMBeauty or Superdrug (sold out right now).

brow pencil, eyeshadow, eye primer - night out motd

Moving onto my eyes, first I’ll prime my lids and lower lash line (can’t forget about that) with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. This was a recent purchase and I’m so happy I picked it up. It keeps my eye makeup perfect for hours! I got the travel-sized version and even then you get so much product in it. Well worth a try for a tenner. Once that’s sunken in a bit, I set it with either the same Collection powder as I set my face with, or a skintone-colour eyeshadow.

Whilst my eye primer settles, I’ll do my brows! I recently dyed my hair so not many of my products actually match, but I am completely in love with the Lottie London Arch Rival Brow Pencil. It’s available in Superdrug for £6.45 but if you’re not from the UK or Ireland, NYX and Benefit have a very similar pencil – a tiny micro brow pencil with a spoolie on the other end. I like my brows to look quite natural, so that’s all I do with them.

Obviously my eyeshadow choice will change each time I go out depending on my current obsession or my outfit, but the most recent eye look I chose was a rose-gold, neutral look using the Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 Palette (just £4 from Superdrug or TAMBeauty and a definite Naked 3 dupe) and the I♥Makeup Naked Chocolate Palette, which was £7.99 from Superdrug or TAMBeauty. I went for grey-toned transition colours from the Iconic palette, and deeper purple-browns in the outer corner from the Naked Chocolate palette. For the lid I chose a deep rose-gold shimmer and for the inner corner and browbone I used the lightest gold shimmer shade in the Naked Chocolate palette.

setting spray, mascara, lipstick - night out motd

The mascara I tend to go for when I want my lashes to look their best is the Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara. It volumises and lengthens my lashes really nicely and doesn’t go clumpy or transfer to my under eyes. It is a little bit pricey at £18 but I love it so much. You can sometimes find it in the W7 Beauty Outlet for a little bit cheaper if you have a store near you, but if not, Stila can be found at Boots.

My lipstick choice is usually what stumps me. I never know what to pick, or what will go with my eye look. However, I do think that a nude goes with pretty much everything, so I went for my favourite nude shade, Chauffeur by Makeup Revolution. This comes in either an Iconic Matte formula or a Rose Gold Satin formula and both are just £6 so why not pick up both like me? You can get them from Superdrug or TAMBeauty!

Finally, I use a setting spray to hold everything in place. Last time I went ‘out out’, it poured down with rain and I got absolutely drenched walking from pub to pub, so setting spray is definitely a must. I love the Urban Decay All-Nighter Spray; I have the travel-sized version so it’s a lot cheaper at around £10, but as I’m only using it sparingly, it’ll last for ages anyway. It keeps my makeup looking fresh for hours.

rose gold neutral makeup look

And that’s it! I don’t like the way my body looks (I know, I know) so I try and put in as much effort as possible into my makeup to distract attention from that and also make myself feel a bit better about myself. What are your favourite makeup items for a night out? Let me know!
