I HEART MAKEUP ROSE GOLD CHOCOLATE PALETTE REVIEW

I feel like I’ve been writing a fair few reviews of late; it feels somewhat like the ‘old days’ where my blog was 90% reviews. But September is, as it always is, a month of new releases and unfortunately for my wallet, I’ve bought most of them. Back to normal scheduling soon, I promise!

The I Heart Makeup (or Makeup Revolution if you’re in the US) Chocolate Rose Gold palette is the 10th palette in their Chocolate palette range and the second to be priced slightly higher and have the metallic packaging. The palette retails for £8.99 on TAMBeauty.com – which ships internationally, by the way – and in select Superdrug stores. It’s expected to launch on Superdrug online as well as in various places overseas in October.

The palette follows previous layout and design in that it has the same melting chocolate effect on the outer casing, a large mirror, plastic sheet containing the names and sixteen eyeshadows in total, with two shadows being ‘double-sized’. As you may be able to tell straight away, this palette is indeed a Huda Beauty dupe!

The release comes at a time when Huda has just announced that her Rose Gold palette will be discontinued, which is very clever of the TAMBeauty! I’m unsure whether the release date was intentional to coincide with this or not, but either way, people who wanted the £56 palette can now get themselves an £8.99 dupe. Most shades in the palette have been duped, except for Black Truffle and Shy (or possibly Sandalwood, as the shade  in the I♥Makeup palette isn’t quite the same and could be either one).  I don’t have the original Huda palette to compare the I♥Makeup palette to, but let’s look at the swatches individually!

  • Hold Up: beige-gold shimmer – highlight shade for inner corners and brow bone
  • Touch Me: khaki green shimmer – almost a gold shift to it and blends out brownish
  • Dirty Rich: pink-red shimmer – intense swatch but blends out easily
  • Hard Work: green-gold shimmer – very glittery and a bit chunky, less pigmented
  • Luxe: deep warm pink shimmer – almost feels like loose glitter; chunky and sheer

  • Cheque: deep rose gold shimmer – very pigmented with one swipe and metallic
  • Barbie: pink to gold shimmer – barbie pink base and gold micro glitters
  • Gold-Digga: bronze-gold shimmer – very reflective metallic and pigmented
  • Girl Boss: warm mid-brown matte – the colour of milk chocolate
  • Uh-Oh: warm pink-brown matte – a great transition colour and perfect nude colour
  • Not Yours: bright hot pink matte – needs building up and not the easiest to blend

Screenshot (81)

  • Shy: grey matte with green undertones – perfect transition for cool-toned looks
  • Back Up: neutral brown matte – similar to Girl Boss but neutral and a bit deeper
  • Side-Chick: deep red matte – probably my favourite matte shade; so easy to blend
  • My Own: orange-toned brown – almost identical to Girl Boss just more orange
  • Independent: yellow-beige matte – I use this to set my eye primer!

Some of the matte shades needed building up a bit more than others and there were three colours that were quite similar to each other, but overall I’m so happy with how the palette looks and swatches. It’s definitely a warm-toned palette despite a couple of neutrals and a cool-toned matte and is perfect for the upcoming season.

The ‘shimmers’ in the palette aren’t really true shimmers except for Hold-Up; the rest are more glittery or metallic finishes. The majority feel soft and almost like cream shadows, especially Luxe which is more like a glittery topper for other shadows as it feels quite loose. For best results, I recommend applying these with a finger or wet brush!

What did you think of the palette? Will you be picking it up for Autumn?
