MAKEUP OF THE DAY – BROWN SMOKEY EYE

The simple brown smokey eye often gets shunned in favour of the more adventurous looks of purples, greens, pinks or blues but I felt like it was time to go back to the original fave – the warm brown smokey eye. This understated look is perfect for every situation and will never let you down unlike those hard-to-achieve cut creases or acid bright looks. It’s the perfect look to take from day to night and any situation you may find yourself in. Here’s my take on it as well as the products I used.

my cat is the star of the show, obvs.

I used the Tartelette In Bloom palette for my eyeshadow look (there’s a review here) and found it really easy to work with except the darkest brown I used – it was a little tricky to blend out but that was most likely down to user error rather than a difficult formula. The lipstick is the Makeup Revolution Life on the Dance Floor ‘Elite’ lipstick – a little lighter than my usual preferred nudes, but it’s growing on me! The rest of the products I used are below.

The only thing I wasn’t impressed with was the New Look Mattifying Foundation – it separated on my skin and looked extremely patchy by the end of the day. I also managed to put on way too much Pixi Glow Booster and look a bit too illuminated. Some might say that a lot of liquid highlighter is contradictory when using a matte primer and foundation, but I wanted to test out some new bits today! I definitely want to have more of a play around with the Tartelette palette and see if I can create anything better – this isn’t my best work – and I will give the foundation another go with a different primer next time just in case they didn’t work well together.

If anyone reading this has done a Makeup of the Day post recently, leave a link!

  1. I’ve actually never tried a brown smokey eye, so might have to give it a go as looks fairly easy too so I might actually be able to pull it off x
